Wild Coho Fishery Opens 9/1 on Siletz River

August 26, 2010 Local News No Comments

Large numbers of returning coho salmon mean fishing for wild coho on the Siletz and Coquille Rivers beginning September 1. The Siletz mainstem is open from its mouth to Old Mill Park boat launch (RM 36) until November 30 or until a quota of 400 fish has been caught.
Even though wild coho along the Oregon coast are listed as threatened under the federal Endangered Species Act, fisheries biologist for the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife feel conditions have improved enough that monitored, conservative harvest by sport anglers will not negatively affect the populations in these five basins. One adult wild coho is allowed per day and for the season. The limit on the Coquille is for one adult wild coho per day and five for the season until November 30 or the quota of 1,200 fish has been caught.
