US 20 Paving Extends Through Weekend

Due an unexpected road closure this week, paving on the Pioneer Mountain to Eddyville project will extend through this weekend. ODOT reports that motorists will experience lane restrictions and a short diversion onto temporary gravel roads. Project Manager Joe Squire says “we will be paving the new alignment on the west end of the project and at the east end, where motorists will actually soon drive on about a half-mile section of the new road.” Squire says he expects the diversion will end before Monday, August 30.

The work has motorists diverted onto two temporary, gravel roads at milepost 25, near Eddyville.  The traffic there allows for the tie-in and paving of the new alignment at the east end of the project. Flaggers and a pilot car will control one-way traffic to allow construction trucks and equipment to cross the highway.  Motorists are expected to begin using the new road after paving and striping are complete at the eastern tie-in.

Closer to Toledo, at about milepost 16, paving will occur from the west end of the project to Cougar Creek Bridge.  While no paving will occur on US 20 on the west tie-in. flaggers will control one-way traffic to allow construction trucks and equipment to cross the highway.

The $215-million,  U.S. 20:  Pioneer Mountain to Eddyville project is  creating six miles of new road, building ten new bridges and bypassing a 10 mile section of old U.S. 20.   It is scheduled for completion in late 2011.
