Sewer Fix Taxes Reserves
The Toledo City Council has authorized spending up to $95,450 from the Wastewater Reserve Fund to repair a broken wastewater line that was discovered August 17. Public Works Director Adam Denlinger says access to the line is impossible by conventional means, and he recommended “micro-tunneling.” The process involves pinpoint linear drilling underground and pulling pipe back through the hole. The contractor is scheduled to start five days of drilling September 13. Denlinger says the work should be done before the end of September. The break is in a “force main,” which is a pressurized sewer line from the Butler Bridge pumping station running uphill to the treatment plant. It has given Public Works trouble in the past and was not part of the system upgraded ten years ago. The drilling would start on GP property, run under the Portland and Western tracks and Butler Bridge Road and up to the head of the treatment plant.
Denlinger had high praise for his staff, saying “we have a couple of operators who are exceeding my expectations,” especially in managing wastewater flows during recent rains when water leaked into the system.
