Uniform Tsunami Warning Adopted

September 1, 2010 Local News No Comments

If you are in Newport or another coastal community and hear a siren – check to see if it is a new standardized tsunami warning test. The Oregon Military Department says Oregon Emergency Management will put in place a standard 11:00 a.m. siren on the first Wednesday of each month. Communities have five years to make the transition. The signal is the up-and-down wail that lasts for three minutes and roughly coincides with weekly NOAA weather radio tests.
