Youth Bird Hunts & Skills Clinics

September 1, 2010 Local News No Comments

14 pre-season upland bird hunts are scheduled in September for young hunters under 17. Registration begins Sept. 2. ODFW hunter education coordinator James Reed says the events allow young and possibly inexperienced hunters to hunt before the season opens and other hunters are in the field. They also “offer young hunters a good chance at bagging a bird,” Reed said. There will also be free shotgun skills clinics. Pre-registration is required for youth hunts. No registration for the skills clinics is required. The first nearby hunts are September 11 & 12 at Fern Ridge Wildlife Area (WA) near Eugene. No advanced registration necessary. Call (541) 935-2591 for more information.

For all these hunts and clinics, hunters and accompanying adults must wear a blaze orange hat, shooting glasses and vest and bring their own shotguns and shells. No hunter education, license or validation is required.
