DEQ Comment Period on Newport Int’l Terminal

September 2, 2010 Local News No Comments

DEQ wants to hear from the public on a proposed cleanup plan for the Port of Newport’s International Terminal. The proposed cleanup consists of removing one ship and stabilizing the other ship that comprise the terminal facilities near Dock Rd. in Newport, Oregon. The two concrete ships, the S.S. C.W. Pasley and S.S. Hennebique, were scuttled and incorporated into the dock terminal in 1948 by a private company. The Pasley will be cleaned and removed, and the Hennebique will be cleaned and filled with clean fill.  Also, contaminated sediments outside the ships will be dredged and stored safely at the terminal.
