The Port of Toledo's boathouse is home to the youth boating program

A steady increase in activity is reported at the Port of Toledo’s Youth Boating Program. This weekend features a day of paddle and oar making. Program coordinator Andrew Linn said “If there is one thing Toledo has, it’s wood.” The program now has several large planks sawn from pilings recovered from the river. Linn reports the program has “two canoes already, and the ability to create many more, but we have only one paddle!” Participants are invited to bring planers, power planers, jigsaws, sanders, and eye/ear protection. Also useful are varnish and brushes, he said “or just come on down and lend a hand.” The program meets every Thursday and Friday at the boathouse (Port dock on Butler Bridge Road) from 3:00 – 6:00.
