Occupy Joins With Rural Organizing Project
A meeting billed as a strategy session among members of Occupy Newport and the Rural Organizing Project (ROP) is scheduled Saturday January 28 from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m.. The meeting is at Centro de Ayuda in Newport (NW 9th and Hurbert Streets). Participants will discuss next steps for the Occupy movement in rural areas. According to information from the ROP, more than 40 small towns in Oregon have held Occupy actions from General Assemblies to camps to direct actions. ROP believes Oregon leads the country in rural, small-town occupy organizing. ROP is holding a series of Occupy Rural Oregon Strategy Sessions through April to “think through the big questions around this movement and to develop next steps strategies for our communities across rural Oregon.” The goal of the session is to get the public’s assistance to shape thinking for a rural and small town organizing strategy across Oregon. The meeting is open to the public. ROP holds it annual caucus and strategy session in May.
