Yachats Man Charged With Arson

April 2, 2012 Yachats 1 Comment

A Yachats man, William Allison, 48, has been charged with two arson counts and other charges after a fire March 21 at a 5th wheel trailer and private home on Camp One Road, just northeast of town. Lincoln County Deputy Barry Bruster responded to the scene to find the trailer fully engulfed in flames and smoke coming from the eaves of the house about 15 feet away. He was told by Allison he did not know how the fire started. The three-alarm blaze was extinguished by Yachats, Central Coast and Seal Rock fire personnel. An investigation by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, fire personnel and the Deputy State Fire Marshal determined that Allison intentionally set the fire because he was upset with his wife, whose personal belongings were in residence. Because the properties were jointly owned by Allison and his wife, the report initially forwarded to the Lincoln County District Attorney’s office for review and recommendation. Allison was arrested April 1 and is jailed on $330 thousand bail.

Angell Job Corps staff and students move quickly during the drill

A tsunami evacuation drill at Angell Job Corps in Yachats took only 12 minutes to clear the building last month in an unannounced test. The Lincoln County Emergency Alert Notification System, “Everbridge” was used to send a “drill message” to the phones at the Angell Job Corps Center, asking students and staff to respond as if it was a real warning. Local Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) members and County Emergency Management acted as observers, monitoring the response by 218 students and 38 staff. Angell Job Corps Center is an educational and career technical training program operated by the U.S. Forest Service. The program assists youth 16-24 with career, technical and academic training. The campus covers more than 11 acres, with three dormitories, an education building, a dining hall, gymnasium, student union, Wellness Center, and eight separate vocational training buildings. The drill was held January 6.

However, friends of the owner, who is recovering from the crash think it is too early to give up hope. Emily DeHuff reports that  Roxy Hills, Isabella’s “person,” has placed many ads & flyers & radio spots, and is trying to get the word out along the Central Coast as far as possible. The crash occurred between Walton and Noti. “Isabella” survived the crash, and was last seen heading West toward Florence. The female dog has curly black hair with a white patch on her chest, and weighs about 45 pounds. Friends suspect she may be trying to find her way home.
