Alumni Football Coach Needed

Rick Graff went out on a high note in coaching his last Toledo Alumni Football game. His Golden Oldies defeated Rod Cross’ Young Bucks 18-8. Graff has organized the Alumni game for 15 years, but says this one will be his last. The Oldies put up 12 points at the half and had ept the Bucks scoreless. A late fourth-quarter touchdown followed by an interception of a Bucks pass sealed the deal. Both coaches expressed respect for the other’s skill, although Coach Cross complained a little that his men were playing “Iron Man Football… we only had 14 guys show up.”

There was a lot of good sportsmanship exhibited during the contest, especially with Bucks helping Oldies up off the ground after rough play. The game saw a crowd of about 200.

Basketball Camp This Weekend

A basketball camp for anyone entering grades 5-12 this fall will be held Friday and Saturday, July 30 and 31 in Siletz. Registration is open from 10:00 – 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Siletz Tribal Rec Center. Parents must sign the registration form and medical release. Registration forms are available at the Toledo Public Library. The cost for the two-day camp is $10. Students are asked to bring their own lunch both days.

Athletes will be assigned to various gyms after registration. Free transportation is available. Buses will leave the Toledo Public Library and Arcadia Elementary at 9:40 a.m. both days, and return at 3:30 p.m. Friday and 4:00 p.m. Saturday. Both days include a pair of training sessions. The Saturday session concludes with a motivational speech by former NBA player Darrall Imhoff at 2:30. Parents are invited to attend. The camp is endorsed by Coaches Bruce Marthaller of Toledo, Dave Morgan of Siletz and Al Burkey of MCCS.
